Derrick had some health issues that contributed to him recently passing away in August 2018. His birthday was just a few days ago. He would have been 48 this year in 2019.
Derrick loved Madison and he was the Ultimate Maverick. He loved representing his team out there on the football field. He also loved all the great people we went to school with. If you ever had a chance to speak to Derrick he would usually make you laugh and then give you that cheesy smile of his. Derrick had a big heart and he was one of those people you couldn't help but like.
I knew Derrick since 2nd Grade. I am honored to say he was one of my best friends. Derrick was always there whenever I needed him. Over the years Derrick and I played sports together, worked together, and played a lot of John Madden Football together. Derrick was even the best man in my wedding. He was like a brother to me.
I was with his family at his bedside when he passed. Thankfully, he appeared to go peacefully. I'm sad that the Lord took Derrick so soon. However, I'm thankful that I had so many great adventures with him. I know that I will see him one day in Heaven. Rest in peace my friend. You are missed.
